Can you bounce a grow light off a wall or ceiling and create indirect ambient light for plants? Sure, but that's not an efficient way to use it. I'm not a horticulturist, so I'll keep this simple: when our office plants needed supplemental light, we put a small LED fixture directly above them. If someone tells you a grow light is “basically indirect light,” ask what the plant actually needs. My best guess is most problems come from placing the light too far away, not from arguing about definitions.

LED tubes: direct wire or plug-and-play?

This is the question most buyers don't ask until the fixture is on the ceiling. LED replacement tubes come in a few versions:

  • Type A: plug-and-play with an existing fluorescent ballast.
  • Type B: ballast-bypass, connected directly to line voltage.
  • Type C: external driver, common in spec-grade projects.

I once skipped the ballast check because it was “basically the same as last time.” It wasn't.
